On the special date, December 13, 2011 (13-12-11) MUNIMUNI (ム ニ ム ニ) held a live show in Shinjuku Loft. From this show a live CD was released in 2015. It is always the question why such a live CD may be more interesting than a moving image. The show was a tour final of a two-man with the band the god and death stars, with the band HERE (ゲ ス ト) also performing. During that show, the band has brought in a total of eleven songs. On the live CD however you will have to do with two less.
01. Power (on other releases it’s called パワー)
02. 曲がる世界 (Magaru_sekai)
03. The ghost song
04. The doguu song
05. My Lucifer
06. Grotesque (on other releases it’s called グロテスク)
07. Neo song
09. フッフー (Fuffuu)
The kind of music that the band makes can be described as a blend of blurred psychedelic dark / goth rock with post-punk and from time to time references to the classic visual kei. One moment the music is very energetic and at the other moment, it is melancholic and dreamy. The live album, consisting of nine tracks, is also filled with this. Given the live show in 2011, the tracks from mostly MUNIMUNI’s starting period in 2005 to 2011 combined with the melodic and swinging power and the happyフ ッ フ ー (Fuffuu).
MUNIMUNI has undergone various line-up changes, at the time of the live show, the band consisted of guitarist -memai, bassist TOSHI and drummer TELL. The regular man of the band, CANOU, often knows how to wail through the songs next to playing the guitar. This kind of singing has something that adds to the melancholic songs. Echo is added to his voice to give an extra effect, but perhaps also to give his voice not too much power, which may result to be annoying. But CANOU can ultimately do much more than lamenting, but if you can appreciate this combination then it’s enjoyment from start to finish!
The songs on the live CD just keep going as it does in a live show. Basically, this live CD could just be a regular CD, only in the beginning, you get the clue that it is recorded live because the audience is heard. They are clapping and cheering enthusiastically, big chance that this is when the band steps up to start the show. The songs go after each other and the quality of the sound is very good. That also makes a lot of difference to my preference, the live DVD. The tracks that the band performed during this live show were well laid out and are also the better tracks of this visual kei band. Even though Beat for you, KILL ME KILL ME KILL ME and nioi (匂 い) were best suited to eventually make some sort of ‘best of’ live CD.
The fact that it was only released in 2015 might be due to the fact that MUNIMUNI likes to keep the fans waiting for new releases. Around 2010, a mini album entitled THE DOGUU ALBUM was announced with a release date in 2011, and this was postponed again and again. To date, this CD is still not released, but this live CD and another mini album came out: A_KILLS_A. In the meanwhile, the band has been very active as a live band and, at any show, it does attract some audience. But it’s a game of patience when one CD comes out, where fans are sure to be waiting for six years!
