The company history of Bourbon begins in 1924, although under a different name, Kitanihon Seika (North Japan Confectionery), to produce confectionery for regions outside Tokyo, whose supply was cut off after the Great Kanto Earthquake in the year before. Since then, the company continued with making candy in various shapes and sizes. In this product review four different variants of cookies and biscuits from Bourbon.

Bourbon – Petit Almond Sable Cookies
Price: ±€2,- per package

There were small bits of almond throughout these sable cookies. The cookies fall apart quite easily when you chew them, they have a creamy flavour to them and aren’t dry. They reminded me of the French Butter Cookies I’ve reviewed before.

Bourbon – Petit Chocolate Biscuits
Price: ±€2,- per package

These cookies were crunchy. I mainly tasted the biscuit and barely tasted the filling. Even when I tried eating the filling separately it didn’t have a very strong flavour to it. I did recognize the chocolate flavour to it, but it was a very faint flavour. Nonetheless, it was a nice cookie.

Bourbon – Petit Vanilla Cookies
Price: ±€2,- per package

This cookie surprised me a bit, I hadn’t expected it to be a slightly salted, flaky cookie. It had a nice layer of creamy vanilla filling. The salt balanced out the sweetness of the filling.

Bourbon – Petit Double Chocolate Cookies
Price: ±€2,- per package

These crunchy cookies are called ‘double chocolate’, but the cookie itself tasted more like a whole wheat cookie than a chocolate cookie. The chocolate layer on top did add a nice chocolate flavour to the cookies. This one wasn’t my favourite, but it was definitely still a nice cookie.

All of these cookies had a different flavour to them, but I can honestly say all of them were worth trying. If I’d have to name a favourite it would be the vanilla cookies, because of the flaky texture of the cookies and the salt and sweet combination.
