This is not a sponsored review and because of this I won’t mention where I bought this set, if you do an online search using the name of this kit you’ll be able to find this one in several webshops.

Heart – Butt Detective DIY Jelly Candy  – Simple
Price:
 ± €4
Extra supplies: Water, Scissors, Spoon, Refrigerator, Microwave*, Heatproof Bowl or Cup
* Instead of melting the gelatine in the microwave you could heat it au bain-marie, with a heatproof glass bowl on top of a pan with a small layer of boiling water. Stir gently until all of the gelatine has melted.

With this kit you create red gummies in shapes related to Butt Detective and other characters from the anime series. Oshiri Tantei, as Butt Detective is called in Japan, is a detective with a butt shaped face. I’ve done one other candy review related to this series in the past, which you can find here.

The kit includes a powder, two moulds and a card which contains a mystery. You can read and solve it by using the red magnifying glass gummy once you’re done making it. There are 8 different cards available and two versions of moulds. All of these are picked at random, you can’t see the difference on the packaging.

Flavour: ♥
Once the powder packet was open there was a very strong artificial candy smell present, I’m guessing it was sour cherry. It might’ve been raspberry as well though, it was hard to recognize just from the smell, but it reminded me of sour candy powder packets.

The gummies really do have more of a jelly texture, they break apart quite easily once they’re out of the mould. When it comes to flavour I couldn’t pinpoint a specific flavour, it was a bit of an artificial red fruit flavour. I can’t say with certainty which red fruit it was. I didn’t dislike the flavour initially, but there’s a weird bitter aftertaste to it, which I didn’t enjoy.

Time needed: ⧗
Making these gummies doesn’t take a lot of time, you do have to wait an hour for them to set in the fridge.

Difficulty level: ★
The steps of this kit are very simple. There isn’t much that can go wrong, just don’t overheat the gummy mix.

Similarity: 📷📷📷
As you can see on the pictures below, the final product looks very similar to the packaging. In fact they look almost the same. If you follow the steps you should end up with something similar.

Want to enjoy this kit again?

Clean the mould with warm water, after using it, and let it air dry. Don’t use soap to clean the mould.

If you want to reuse the mould you could make your own gummies or chocolates, for instance.
